These links take you to the details about several things
you can do:
|
-
As a part of Orientation for New Students at Schreiner
you receive a sheet
with your Student ID Number, your Logon id for e-mail and the
Academic network, and your password. It also gives Internet
addresses for your
web-based Schreiner e-mail, and for "Schreiner
One".
-
E-mail and Academic logon: use your logon id,
(possibly with
campus\ before it --like campus\RMNixon) and password.
-
Schreiner One logon: use your id number (like 84692)
and password
-
Schreiner One is our Student Information System,
used by some faculty to exchange coursework information with
students. You will receive a separate page with details.
-
There are computers available to you on campus in
several places. They run only "our" software, not yours. (The
CAMPUS domain and wireless networks do not connect to each
other.)
|
Free
Student Printing
Allowance--
Students receive a $5.00 per semester
free printing allowance, and printing on the
CAMPUS network is "charged" against that allowance.
-
Deposit more in Dickey 112 if you
run low.
-
Or if you are working in the library
after hours, you can deposit at the circulation
desk.
|
| Special prices on Microsoft Office and Windows--
--
Pay only $25 for each of the following, with your ID card, at the
Library circulation desk:
- For Windows users:
Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise (includes Access, Excel,
Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint, Word), and Microsoft Windows VISTA (operating
system) are available to Schreiner students for
$25 each at the Library circulation desk. [Office on DVD only --
see note below]
- For MAC users: Microsoft Office MAC 2008 is available to Schreiner
students for $25 at the Library circulation desk.
[Office on DVD
only -- see note below]
- Also for Windows users, McAfee antivirus software is available
free to Schreiner students (in the Computer Lab, Dickey 112).
| Note: Office is now available only on DVD (as opposed to
CDs). If your computer does not have a drive that will read
DVDs, contact the Technology help desk to arrange for us to
copy your DVD onto your hard drive so that you can install
the software. |

To register your
own wireless, we need the "MAC address"--aka "Physical
Address"--of your wireless network adapter. If it's a laptop,
you can bring it to the Computer Lab and we can figure out the
MAC address for you, or on any Windows computer you can follow
the steps below.
to download a form you fill in with the needed information, to bring to the
Dickey Hall 112 Computer lab. The form also has these instructions on it.
- Depending on what version of Windows, try:
- Windows XP etc.: Click the Start button and click “Run”
- Windows Vista: Click the button that "would have been
Start if they had given it a name", then the cursor will
appear in the space on the line above it.
- Type “cmd” (without the quotes) and tap <Enter>
This should open a DOS window, aka command prompt window.
- Type “ipconfig /all” (without the quotes)--there is a
space between the g and the / --and tap <Enter>
- Read through the headings on the sections and find the
one that says Wireless in the heading. The “Physical
Address” under the Wireless LAN section is six pairs of
number/letters, separated by hyphens, like 00‑00‑2D‑2E‑64‑CA
or some such. Be sure you get the one for WIRELESS, if your
computer has a regular Ethernet and a wireless. You may have
to scroll up to see it--in Vista you are almost sure to have
to scroll up.
- On a MAC, the number you need (same appearance as above)
is called the Airport Address. To find it, click the apple
in the upper left, come down and click "System Properties".
Click the "Network" icon a bit below the center. Click the
"Configure" button, and look for the Airport address.
